I know bikers in general have a bad reputation in some areas, and I know law enforcement does profile us, but today it just irritated the hell out of me.
Because of a long, complicated, and confusing day (I hate paperwork), I ended up with both my bike and one of my cars in town. . This resulted in a very attractive blonde following me home, driving the new jaguar (that was the good part). I was doing just under the speed limit, and in my mirror I saw a Sheriff Deputy. gaining on us like we were standing still. He sailed right past the jag and pulled right beside my rear fender, on the left of me. I slowed down a little, and saw him typing one handed on his laptop, and then he slowed to a position right beside my rear fender again. We traveled like this for about three miles, while he very slowly accelerated and decelerated to check out me and my bike. During this time the gal driving my jag sped up, and got close enough tome that the Deputy could not easily get right behind me.
Now I do admit, my bike looks a little hardcore. I was riding a custom FXR, painted flat black with loud pipes and apes. This aside, he looked me over well enough to know that my attire was clean, and that of a working professional. It just irritated me that I was the subject of suspicion simply for riding a bike. Had I been in the car, he never would have looked twice at me less...
I really would not have cared if he pulled me over for a good reason. It was the principal that I was being checked out for riding a bike. I do not think I would have been any subject of interest, at all, to him, had I been in a car
Nahhh...the time to get pissed is when you get pulled JUST BECAUSE you're riding a bike. (That's the time to lawyer up, too.) If he was just checking you out, well, that's what you pay him to do.

Are you so sure it was just because you were on a bike? Maybe someone on a bike had just raped a child. Or robbed a store. Or maybe someone dressed like you had just beaten up his wife, and even though no mention of a bike was made, there you go, putting along, dressed like the suspect...
The long and the short of it is, you have no idea why he was checking you out. You ASSUME it was simply because you were on a bike, but in truth we really don't know. Heck, I was once hauled in for questioning on a murder charge because I looked a lot like a composite of the suspect. I mean I looked a LOT like the suspect. I wasn't pissed though, nor angry in any way at the cops. They were doing everything they could to track down a cold blooded killer, and I wished them to succeed.
As I said earlier though, (or sorta said, anyway, )if a cop checks you out, but doesn't intrude on your rights, you've got nothing to bitch about. And riding behind you and running your plate isn't any kind of intrusion.

They sounded great, but every time I backed up to a curb, crap blew everywhere They cracked down on helmets last year, and got a lot of us for non-DOT buckets. Bars are allowed to be 6" above the shoulder here. Mine are just shoulder height though, so I am safe there

Having several friends on the police departments of several jurisdictions, I can safely say you were the excuse he was using to check out the blonde. After he put you plate number in his computer he knew all about you, your bike and your criminal past and or lack of it within 60 seconds. Police officers know quite well that they have a nervous effect on people when the put them under surveilance, as you were. Get it all the time. Despite the fact that football hooligans and thugs and rapists are from the middle income and are estate agents, trainee solicitors and even public service workers including socila worker people assume leather and bike and pheremones mean trouble.
Even had a public worker tell me that working class men and bikers where natually next to primates.
